The sunflower, because it always faces
the sun, represents the soul seeking God. Symbolizing gratitude and
affectionate remembrance, it could be used sepulchrally in two ways: from
the standpoint of the deceased as thanks for a happy life, and from the
standpoint of the mourners who express their affectionate remembrance.
